If the original trilogy was about Luke Skywalker, the prequel trilogy is about Anakin Skywalker, Luke’s father.

The Galactic Republic is embroiled in a dispute over trade routes in the Outer Rim.  The Trade Federation, a group trying to monopolize trade routes, has blockaded the planet Naboo, freezing trade.  While the Senate debates the issue, the Chancellor secretly dispatches two Jedi Knights to resolve the conflict and restore justice and peace to the galaxy...

There was a disturbing element in the Galactic Senate. Thousands of star systems were threatening to leave the Republic.  A Separatist movement, led by the mysterious Count Dooku, had put the limited Jedi Knights in a position where they could not maintain peace and order in the galaxy.  Former Queen of Naboo, Senator Amidala, returns to the Galactic Senate to vote on a critical matter, to create a Republic Army to help the outnumbered Jedi Knights...

War! The Republic is crumbling under the relentless assault of the Sith Lord, Count Dooku.  Heroes are emerging on both sides.  Evil is everywhere.  The evil mastermind behind the droid armies, General Grievous, has taken a bold move to invade the Republic capital and kidnap the Supreme Chancellor Palpatine.  With the precious hostage, the Separatist droid army attempts to escape the besieged capital and two Jedi Knights are tasked with the vital mission of rescuing the Chancellor...

In addition to the above 6 official films, the following films have been released.  In fact, because the director and actors have changed significantly and the reviews are not very good, I have not seen them myself.  But I think the versions with Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford are worth watching.  I will introduce them in order of release date, and they are unrelated to the actual episode timeline.
