Word Count & Manuscript Pages? Understanding Your Writing Length

Hello. Today, we'll learn about the length of a document when written online using a word processing program like Word.

When writing a self-introduction, report, or creative work, it's crucial to check the required word count or page length.
Even if you don't have a specific word count requirement, it's beneficial to develop a sense of document length if you're practicing writing regularly.
 
1 A4 page is equivalent to [7 manuscript pages, 1,400 characters]approximately.
 
This calculation is based on a new A4 page in Hangul (HWP) without any specific settings. In other words, it uses default margin settings (Top: 20.0 mm, Bottom: 15.0 mm, Header: 15.0 mm, Footer: 15.0 mm, Left: 30.0 mm, Right: 30.0 mm, Binding: 0.0 mm) + the default font, Hamchorong Batang + font size 10 pt + line spacing of 160%.
 
Naturally, the number of manuscript pages and characters can vary depending on the A4 page margin settings, font, font size, line spacing, and other settings you choose. Therefore, if you need precise measurements, please use the following methods.
  
■ If you are using the Hangul (HWP) program, you can easily check the number of characters through the menu: [File] > [Document Information] > [Document Statistics] tab.
 
■ You can also check the character count using the character counter/spell checker on the Saramin website. It calculates the number of characters including and excluding spaces, as well as byte size, and also provides basic spell checking, making it convenient to use.
